Make Website Accessibility Part of Everyday Maintenance

A website should allow people to learn about your business and contact you using the tools they rely on. Some visitors navigate with a keyboard, enlarge text, or use a screen reader. Design choices that ignore those needs can make an otherwise attractive site difficult to use.

Start with a few practical checks. Move through your main pages using a keyboard and confirm that links, menus, and form controls can be reached. The current focus should be visible, and visitors should be able to move past interactive elements without becoming trapped.

Review text and structure. Use descriptive headings in a sensible order, provide readable contrast, and avoid relying on color alone to explain an error or status. Link text should indicate its destination. A page filled with identical click here links gives little context to someone navigating them separately.

Check forms carefully. Each field needs a clear label, and errors should explain what must change. Required information should be identified before submission. Test the success message as well so visitors can tell whether their request was accepted.

Give meaningful images appropriate text alternatives. A project photograph may need a useful description, while a purely decorative image may not. Captions and transcripts can help make audio and video content usable. The right treatment depends on what the content communicates.

W3C's Easy Checks guidance is a helpful starting point, but W3C explicitly notes that basic checks are not a comprehensive evaluation. Automated tools can flag some problems while missing others. Combine them with manual testing and, where appropriate, a more detailed accessibility assessment.

Treat accessibility as an ongoing content responsibility. A site can acquire new barriers when someone uploads a poorly structured document, changes a color, or adds a third-party widget. Give editors simple standards and include important user journeys in routine reviews.

These improvements support usability; a short checklist or plugin should not be presented as a guarantee of legal compliance. Ask InnerDigital to help identify accessibility barriers and build better design and content practices into the ongoing care of your website.
