Review Your Technology Before Next Year Gets Busy

The end of the year is a useful time to ask whether technology is supporting the way your business now operates. A new department, a changed application, or a growing remote team can make an older setup less suitable even when nothing appears visibly broken.

Start with recurring problems. Ask employees which technology issue wastes the most time and compare their answers with support records. Repeated printer trouble, slow application access, or unreliable wireless coverage may be treated as separate incidents when they actually point to one underlying cause.

Review ownership of important services. Your business should know who controls its domain name, website hosting, email tenant, phone numbers, and backup platform. Confirm that authorized company contacts can reach the appropriate administrators. Critical access should not depend entirely on one employee's personal email address.

Examine renewals before they happen. Record contract dates, cancellation notice periods, license quantities, and the person responsible for each decision. Verify whether unused accounts can be removed safely after records and dependencies are reviewed. Do not delete access simply because a name looks unfamiliar on an invoice.

Ask for an update on recovery readiness. Identify when the last meaningful restore test occurred and whether the result met business expectations. Check whether new systems or data locations have been added since the backup design was last reviewed.

Look at equipment and software together. A workstation may run acceptably today but have a limited path to supported operating systems or business applications. Identify those dependencies early enough to budget for replacements and testing. A hardware list becomes more valuable when it includes the business role of each device.

Finish with a short action list. Choose a few improvements that address the most consequential gaps, assign owners, and schedule a review. An ambitious list of twenty unowned projects usually produces less progress than three clearly defined priorities.

A useful year-end review should leave leadership knowing what is working, what needs attention, and which decisions are next. Contact InnerDigital to turn your support history, renewals, and business goals into a practical technology roadmap for the coming year.
